اسم موصول
Relative pronoun, a pronoun that connects a relative clause to a main clause, referring back to a noun mentioned earlier. This noun phrase is a grammatical term in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu linguistics. اسم (ism) means noun or name. موصول (mausool) means connected, joined, or linked. Together, they mean "the connecting noun" or "the relative pronoun." In Urdu grammar, the اسم موصول includes words like "جو" (jo, who, which, that), "جس" (jis, whom, which), "جن" (jin, plural), "جسے" (jise, whom), and "جس کا" (jis ka, whose). These pronouns link a dependent clause (صفت والا جملہ, sifat wala jumla, adjective clause) to a noun or pronoun in the main clause. The term is used in educational contexts, in grammar textbooks, in language teaching, and in linguistic discussions. It has a neutral polarity. The opposite would be "اسم ظاہر" (ism e zaahir, explicit noun) or "اسم ضمیر" (ism e zameer, personal pronoun). The word is formal and technical.
