کباڑیہ
Junk dealer, scrap merchant, ragpicker, one who buys and sells discarded or waste materials, a recycler of used goods. This noun refers to a person who collects, buys, and sells old newspapers, empty bottles, scrap metal, broken appliances, used furniture, and other discarded items. کباڑیہ is derived from کباڑ (kabaar), which means junk, scrap, rubbish, or discarded goods. The suffix "یہ" (iya) indicates a person associated with that trade. The کباڑیہ is a familiar figure in South Asian cities and towns, often seen pushing a handcart or driving a small truck, calling out "کباڑ لو" (kabaar lo, take junk) to attract customers. The word carries a mix of connotations: poverty, hard work, resourcefulness, and sometimes low social status. In recent years, with the growth of recycling and environmental awareness, the کباڑیہ has been recognized as an important part of the waste management system. The phrase is used in everyday conversation, in economic discussions, and in social commentary. It is informal to neutral in register.
