بھتہ خور
An extortionist; a person who systematically and illicitly demands and collects money, goods, or favors through intimidation, coercion, or the threat of violence. The term is a compound of "بھتہ" (bhutta), meaning extortion money or protection racket payment, and "خور" (khor), a suffix meaning "eater" or "consumer." Thus, a "بھتہ خور" is literally "one who eats/extorts protection money." This figure is a pervasive and feared archetype in the informal economies and street-level governance of many South Asian urban and semi-urban landscapes. He represents a localized form of organized crime, preying on small businesses, shopkeepers, vendors, transporters, and sometimes even ordinary citizens, extracting regular payments in exchange for "protection" from harm harm that he himself often threatens to orchestrate.
