Mammal; a class of vertebrate animals characterized by the presence of mammary glands in females for feeding their young with milk, a neocortex region in the brain, fur or hair, and three middle ear bones. Mammals are warm-blooded (endothermic), typically give live birth (with the exception of monotremes like the platypus), and exhibit highly developed parental care, complex social behaviors, and advanced neurological capabilities.
